Frequently asked questions
The MegaCard-account is for all children and teenagers from 10 to 20 years old. From the age of 14, all functions are available, and your child can set their own card limit at a branch location.
For children between 10 to 13 years old:
If you are already a Bank Austria customer and have Online banking access, you can open the MegaCard-account for your child online via 24You. To do this, you will need your Online banking login data and your child will need a valid passport.
Without Online banking access, one can apply for the MegaCard-account online. Only a final in-person signature at a branch location is required. For this, a valid passport, a smartphone and an e-mail address are needed.
For children from 14 to 20 years old:
The MegaCard GoGreen-account can be opened at one of our branch locations. This requires an official photo ID, e.g., your child's ID card or passport. You can search for branches near you here.
With the MegaCard 14-20, opening the account online using video legitimization is available to your child. For this to work best:
The MegaCard5 is sent by mail to your primary residence.
From 10 to 13 years of age, 50 euros per week can be withdrawn from ATMs with the MegaCard3 and from 14 to 20 years of age, 200 euros per week - if the account balance is sufficient for this.
For everyone from 10 to 13 years of age, a weekly limit of 50 euros applies for purchases at POS checkouts. For everyone from 14 to 20 years of age, a limit of 200 euros applies. A total of up to 50 euros can be paid contactless without a PIN, and only 125 euros consecutively. After that, for security reasons, a transaction involving inserting the debit card and entering the PIN is required.
Online shopping with the MegaCard3 is only possible for children aged 14 and above.
After the 14th birthday, benefits such as CashBack Online or CashBack Mobile are automatically adjusted to the MegaCard account for the age 14 and above. If higher limits or online payments using the Mastercard Identity Check of the MegaCard3 for the age 14 and above are desired, then the new debit card (MegaCard 14+ years) must be ordered at a branch of choice. The debit card will then be delivered to your primary residence.
