Board of Education for Vienna and UniCredit Bank Austria present the “MoneyMatters” financial education programme

  • Together with the Board of Education for Vienna, the project “Financial Education at Schools in Vienna” was successfully implemented for students aged 14 and older
  • Positive results: 1,100 Viennese students at 51 schools in Vienna have already participated in the blended learning programme “MoneyMatters” in the first half of 2022, and more than 1,700 young people nationwide have already done so
  • Vienna will be the first federal state to use the financial education platform “MoneyMatters” at all secondary schools
  • “MoneyMatters”, a financial education programme for students aged 14 and above, is only one element of UniCredit Bank Austria's broad-based financial education initiative, consisting of financial education workshops, online platforms and an Austria-wide business plan competition

In cooperation with UniCredit Bank Austria and the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, the Board of Education for Vienna successfully implemented the project “Financial Education at Schools in Vienna” at a total of 51 Vienna schools. The innovative financial education programme “MoneyMatters” was used, which offers students from the eighth grade onwards the opportunity to strengthen their financial knowledge in a playful and multimedia form.

Director of Education Heinrich Himmer: “Our pedagogues confirm the great interest of their students in finance and economics. With the blended learning programme ‘MoneyMatters’, we teach kids and young people how to handle money responsibly. In 12 lessons, basic knowledge about money and the economy, cryptocurrency and cybersecurity is taught. With videos, quizzes and animated diagrams, ‘MoneyMatters’ combines digital as well as playful approaches alongside knowledge transfer.”

Robert Zadrazil, CEO of UniCredit Bank Austria: “I am proud of how successful we have been in implementing the ‘Financial Education at Schools in Vienna’ project together with the Board of Education for Vienna after intensive preparatory work – despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic in the previous year. With this project, we as a bank want to support not only students, but all young people and young adults in learning about the basics of money and economics. With ‘MoneyMatters’ we offer modern, interactive learning with help of an innovative learning platform. Socially highly relevant current topics such as indebtedness and pension provision are addressed and the correct handling of money is trained. I am pleased that our financial education offer is so well received in Vienna. More than 1,700 young people have already taken part in the online programme ‘MoneyMatters’ nationwide in the first half of 2022 and hopefully there will be many more. Sharing financial know-how is an important focus for us in the area of sustainability and in our broad-based ‘Social Impact Banking’ initiative.”

About “MoneyMatters”
This blended learning programme is designed for students and trainees aged 14 and over. It was developed by UniCredit Bank Austria together with teachers and the Institute of Business Education at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and launched in a pilot project at schools in the federal state of Burgenland. On the one hand, it consists of introductory workshops at the schools, which are conducted by the independent partner Austrian Museum of Society and Economics. On the other hand, of an open online platform with 12 modules on which the students and trainees can continue to work independently and regardless of their location via smartphone, tablet or PC. Students receive a Basic Certificate after completing the first five basic modules and a Premium Certificate after completing ten modules.

“MoneyMatters” offers an exciting mix of videos, quizzes, animated diagrams and cloze texts – from solid basic knowledge to lessons for advanced learners, for example on common investment forms for savers or on current topics such as cryptocurrencies.
